RE SEA and RESPONSE Project Marine Pollution Monitoring and Response Training Curriculum Development Workshop

A working meeting was held at BSU on the joint development of a curriculum for monitoring and responding to marine pollution. The meeting was attended by professors and students of the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Health of BSU, employees of the National Environmental Agency, Adjara Autonomous Region Agriculture and Environmental Protection, professors of the Maritime Academy,

the head of the Poti Coastal Protection Department, and representatives of the Kobuleti Coastal Protection Department. The meeting, held in a hybrid mode, planned to develop joint training curricula, which will include the following modules:

Module 1. Pollution Context: Causes and Consequences

Module 2. Legislation and Governance

Module 3. Integrated Coastal Zone ManagementThe workshop was held within the framework of the EU-funded projects: Interreg NEXT Black Sea Basin Program – “Cooperation and Awareness Raising for a Pollution-Free and Ecologically Clean Black Sea”, led by the BSU, and the RESPONSE project – “Framework Approaches for Responding to Existing and Emerging Challenges of Pollution in the Black Sea”, participating in which is the Georgian Green Movement/Friends of the Earth Georgia.

RESPONSE aims to develop and test new training schemes and curricula for monitoring, reporting, managing and mitigating marine pollution, including some emphasis on pollution caused by armed conflict.
